
AV Design Engineer

American Sound is growing and looking to add an experienced AV Design Engineer to our team. As an AV Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in planning, designing, and overseeing the installation of complex integrated audiovisual (AV) systems. Your expertise will contribute to creating seamless and high-quality AV experiences for clients across various industries.
Job Responsibilities
The AV Design Engineer will collaborate with sales and clients to understand client AV/UC needs, requirements, and project goals
Translate client expectations into Bill of Materials and Scope of Work before the sale and drawings after the sale
Develop comprehensive AV/UC system designs that encompass various components, including audio, video, lighting, control systems, and network
Consider factors such as room acoustics, equipment placement, cable routing, and user experience
Coordinate with other trades (IT, electrical, fire, security, structural and architectural) to seamlessly integrate AV systems into building designs
Modify architectural drawings as needed to incorporate AV elements
Evaluate and select AV/UC equipment including projectors/screens, dvLED/LCD displays, cameras, microphones, DSP’s, speakers, amplifiers, network switches, and control interfaces
Ensure compatibility, performance, and reliability
Attend design and programming meetings to align AV/UC solutions with project requirements
Collaborate with vendors, programmers, technicians, and project managers to execute successful implementation
Ensure reliable operation of AV/UC equipment during events or daily use
Diagnose and resolve technical issues promptly
Add callouts on architectural floor and ceiling plans and create elevations, signal flow, rack elevations, power distribution, pinout detail, and plate detail drawings for AV/UC systems
Maintain accurate records of design decisions, equipment specifications, and installation guidelines
Job Requirements
5 years of commercial AV design experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Audio Engineering, or related field (preferred)
Industry certifications such as CTS, CTS-D, and CQD are advantageous
Proficiency in AV design software tools including AutoCAD
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
Experience in analyzing audio/visual hardware solutions for educational venues, corporate spaces, entertainment venues, or other environments
Job Compensation and Details
Pay: $85k–110k annual salary with potential bonus at year end
Shift Time and Days: Day Shift, M‑F
