911 Communications/Dispatch Officer

Summary of Responsibilities
Dispatches emergency calls by contacting units and relaying calls, providing fire, ambulance, and law enforcement assistance; monitors officers’ status and radio frequencies; monitors traffic stops for officer safety; broadcasts state and nationwide teletypes; provides back‑up units; and answers 9‑1‑1 phone calls.

Essential Responsibilities and Functions

Relay information accurately and with clarity in stressful and tense situations.

Answer non‑emergency calls by assisting citizens and law enforcement with needed services.

Receive calls for service, problem‑solve, and route calls to the appropriate department or agency.

Perform related duties, including checking and entering stolen items, receiving and routing administrative messages, confirming and entering warrants, maintaining wrecker logs, checking criminal histories, and updating protective orders.

Operate computers efficiently.

Perform related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.

Have knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or its equivalent.

Be capable of obtaining a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) Communication (Dispatcher) Certification.

Be proficient in computer use.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Operator’s Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

No prior experience required.

Work Schedule / Hours
12‑hour shift work required.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre‑employment drug testing, physical fitness testing, and a criminal background check.

I understand that final confirmation of any job offer will be contingent upon my undergoing a pre‑employment drug screening. Failure to submit to such screening, falsification of a screen, or a positive finding on a test will remove me from consideration for employment for one year.

I also understand this position requires an ability to meet physical demands that serve as the essential functions of the job. I understand that I may be required to demonstrate that I can perform the essential functions of the job.

I also understand a criminal history check will be conducted. While a disqualification is possible, in accordance with federal and state laws, a previous conviction does not automatically disqualify me from consideration for employment. However, if I attempt to withhold information or falsify information pertaining to previous convictions, I will be disqualified from further employment consideration.
