Position Summary
Required to install, modify, and repair new and existing pipe systems and equipment.
Responsibilities
Perform Journeyman level Pipefitter work.
Read and interpret measuring tools such as tape measure, speed square, framing square, etc., to perform tasks accurately.
Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions and diagrams to perform tasks accurately.
Fully understand Plant North and drawing coordinates.
Read and understand isometrics and orthographic drawings as well as P&ID’s.
Red-line drawings and draw ISOs.
Plan, lay out, install, test, repair, and perform all types of pipe fitting and fabrication work in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards, including pipe supports and materials.
Install valves, couplings and other fittings; disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe, etc.
Use appropriate hand and power tools to fit and install all types of pipe and piping systems (butt welded, socket welded, threaded, Victaulic, grooved, glued and fused joints).
Produce quality work meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
Collaborate with installation crews for movement of materials and equipment.
Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures safely.
Perform daily safety checks to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
Complete necessary documentation, reporting, and limited office duties.
Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by supervision. Take direction from higher skilled worker or foreman.
Have basic knowledge of the construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction.
Support project with other tasks as directed by supervision.
A Master Journeyman must be able to direct a small crew and/or mentor Journeyman and Helpers.
Communicate with Foreman regarding problems, materials required, or hazards noted.
Ability to work different shifts and overtime as required.
Work under production schedule pressure and attain set standards of accuracy.
Perform duties in a safe manner.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience Requirements
4+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
High School Diploma or GED Certification (preferred)
Applicable Pipefitter training and certificate from NCCER, NCCCO, or approved 3rd party certification body
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Journeyman: a minimum of four years’ experience in craft with an approved certification in applicable craft such as NCCER.
Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors on site.
Set a personal example of safe behavior.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Basic arithmetic and measurement skills; ability to perform operations using units of weight, measurement, and volume.
Ability to follow written or oral instructions precisely and work within set procedures and standards.
Other duties as assigned; maintain in-depth relations with team members and supervisor.
Physical Demands
Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
Maintain physical strength and stamina; lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; perform repetitive motions and work in confined, cluttered, or uneven areas.
Work at heights and follow all safety and fall-protection requirements with appropriate PPE.
Visual and auditory requirements to perform tasks and coordinate hand-eye-foot movements.
Hours
This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements.
Travel
Travel required up to 90%. Position requires presence directly on the Project Site location with intermittent travel to residence of record.
