
Pipefitter Journeyman

Position Summary
Responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems.
Responsibilities
Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications
Inspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions and that holes will not cause structural weakness
Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers
Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine
Thread pipe using threading machine
Bend pipe by hand or with pipe‑bending machine
Assemble and install a variety of metal and non‑metal pipe and pipe fittings, including brass, copper, lead, glass and plastic
Join pipe by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints
Use hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets and hangers
Install and maintain refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping
Test piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks
Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members
May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice
Other duties as assigned by Foreman or Superintendent
Qualifications
4+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
High school diploma or GED certification (preferred)
Applicable Pipefitter training and certificate from NCCER, NCCCO, or from an approved third‑party certification body (preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project‑specific regulations
Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors
Set a personal example of safe behavior
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide with two‑digit numbers and convert units of weight measurement and volume)
Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards
Maintain in‑depth relations with all team members and supervisor
Physical Demands
Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions
Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and perform tasks such as stooping, kneeling, balancing, crouching, crawling, and climbing
Stamina to perform repetitive tasks for several hour intervals
Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and loud noises
Wear personal protective equipment, including safety‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.
Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas; work at heights and abide by safety and fall‑protection requirements
Visual and auditory acuity required; ability to see well (naturally or corrected) and hear well (naturally or corrected)
Hours
Full‑time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week; schedule subject to project requirements.
Travel
Travel required up to 90%; position requires presence directly on the project site location with intermittent travel to residence of record.
