
Pipefitter Journeyman

Position Summary
Responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems.
Completion Bonus
$3.00 per hour bonus for eligible hourly employees effective April 27, 2026, excluding holiday pay, PTO, and leave of absence. Employees must be actively employed and in good standing at payout time.
Eligibility is forfeited if employees voluntarily resign or are terminated for cause prior to payout.
Responsibilities
Promote and comply with all company and safety policies and procedures.
Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.
Inspect worksites to determine presence of obstructions and ensure holes do not cause structural weakness.
Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers.
Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine.
Thread pipe using threading machine.
Bend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine.
Assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic.
Join pipe by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
Use hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers.
Install and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping.
Test piping system for leaks by increasing pressure and observing gauges.
Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members.
May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice.
Other duties as assigned by Foreman or Superintendent.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
4+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
High school diploma or GED certification (preferred).
Applicable pipefitter training and certification from NCCER, NCCCO, or an approved third-party certification body (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
Setting a personal example of safe behavior.
Reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Basic arithmetic ability and measurement conversions.
Common sense and ability to follow written or oral instructions.
Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
Maintaining in-depth relations with team members and supervisors.
Physical Demands
Work up to a 12 hour shift, performing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
Maintain physical strength and stamina, using arms, hands, and legs fully; lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; frequently stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb.
Work repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
Frequent exposure to changing weather and site conditions.
Potential exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
Requirement to wear personal protective equipment including safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.
Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
Ability to work at heights and abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements.
Use visual and auditory senses for details in objects or drawings.
Working Conditions
Hours:
Full time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements.
Travel:
Travel required up to 90%. Position requires presence directly on the project site with intermittent travel to residence of record.
