Student Intern – Health Services (Administration/Policy)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Student Intern. The role requires 10–12 weeks of full‑time work experience. It provides students the opportunity to apply their developing knowledge and skills in health services administration/management, research, or policy. Students gain a better appreciation of the pressures that affect decision‑making in today’s healthcare environment and are able to identify skills they will need for a rewarding career in health care administration.
Job Responsibilities
Assist with providing constructive feedback and developing training tools, policy, and procedures.
Ensure cash optimization and accounts receivable reduction activity is functioning to fullest capability.
Report any discrepancies or inconsistencies in data and/or reports to management in a timely manner.
Adhere to compliance and departmental policies and procedures, including 100% compliance with HIPAA requirements.
Work independently, take initiative, and think critically.
Work collaboratively with a variety of departments within NYULMC and NYULMC’s contracted payers.
Evaluate and elevate eligibility, authorization, billing, and claims processing inaccuracies to implement upstream solutions.
Maintain data integrity when manipulating data files for purposes of analysis to ensure data does not become corrupted.
Execute data mining and in‑depth accounts receivable analysis.
Collect and analyze data to determine areas for operational improvement throughout the revenue cycle.
Student Intern – Engineering/Sustainability (Facilities Operations & Construction)
Position Summary: 10–12 weeks of full‑time work experience. It provides students the opportunity to apply their developing knowledge and skills in engineering, architecture, sustainability, and/or project management. Students gain a better appreciation of the pressures that affect decision‑making in today’s healthcare environment and are able to identify skills they will need for a rewarding career in engineering, facilities operations, and construction.
Additional Position Specific Responsibilities
Work with staff operations, sustainability, and project managers on a variety of technical assignments.
Assist Operations managers on compliance surveys, rounding, and maintenance validation.
Perform engineering and economic calculations.
Report any discrepancies or inconsistencies in data and/or reports to management in a timely manner.
Work with Operations and project managers on inspections, equipment, and other data collection, analysis, and documentation.
Adhere to compliance and departmental policies and procedures, including 100% compliance with HIPAA requirements.
Work independently, take initiative and think critically.
Work collaboratively with a variety of departments within NYULMC and NYUMC vendors.
Assist with providing constructive feedback and developing training tools and policy and procedures.
Education and Minimum Qualifications
Degree Type: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a science‑related discipline. Progress toward degree required.
Minimum Experience: 0 years.
Must be a full‑time student, or if working during the summer (mid‑May through mid‑September), must plan to return to full‑time status in the fall.
Completion of freshman‑level engineering or architecture coursework (or equivalent) required.
Communication skills and English language proficiency required.
Salary Range
Hourly: $20.00 – $25.00. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education and hospital need. This range does not include bonus, differential pay or other compensation.
