Student Intern - Engineering

Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Student Intern. The internship will last 10-12 weeks and will provide students with an opportunity to apply their developing knowledge and skills in health services administration/management, research or policy, as well as engineering, architecture, sustainability and project management. Students will gain a better appreciation for the pressures that affect decision‑making in the healthcare environment and will identify additional skills needed to prepare for a rewarding career in health care administration, engineering, facilities operations, or construction.
Job Responsibilities
Assist with providing constructive feedback and developing training tools, policy and procedures.
Ensure cash optimization and accounts receivable reduction activity is functioning to full capability.
Report discrepancies or inconsistencies in data or reports to management in a timely manner.
Adhere to compliance and departmental policies and procedures, including compliance with 100% of HIPAA requirements.
Execute data mining and in-depth accounts receivable analysis.
Collect and analyze data to determine areas for operational improvement throughout the revenue cycle.
Evaluate and elevate eligibility, authorization, billing, and claims processing inaccuracies to implement upstream solutions.
Maintain data integrity when manipulating data files for purposes of analysis to ensure data does not become corrupted.
Work independently, take initiative, and think critically.
Work collaboratively with a variety of departments within NYULMC and NYULMC’s contracted payers.
Assist operations managers on compliance surveys, rounding and maintenance validation.
Perform engineering and economic calculations.
Work with operations and project managers on inspections, equipment, and other data collection, analysis and documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
• The student intern must be a full‑time student, or if working in the summer months (Mid‑May through Mid‑Sept), must be planning to return to full‑time status in the fall.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a science‑related discipline (progressing toward completion).
• Minimum experience: 0 years.
• Strong communication skills; English required.
Salary
Salary range: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour (actual salary depends on experience, education, specialty, and hospital need). Salary does not include bonuses, incentives, or other forms of compensation.
