Heavy Duty Mechanic (Automotive Advanced Journey/Lead)
Job Overview
Professionally maintain all heavy-duty and light-duty equipment and vehicles that support the construction, maintenance, and operation of secondary roads, rural airports, and agency vehicles.
Responsibilities
Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot heavy-duty and light-duty equipment and vehicles.
Diagnose, repair, and modify transmission, drivetrain, suspension, engine, emission, fuel injection, hydraulic, and brake systems—including air and electrical—on both light and heavy-duty equipment.
Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems using a variety of techniques and methods.
Perform routine and specialized maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment.
Working Environment
The position is located at 2301 Peger Road, Fairbanks, AK. Travel by small planes to remote maintenance sites, including day trips and overnight stays, may be required.
Qualifications
Knowledge of machines and tools, including designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
Flexibility and adaptability to changing conditions and unexpected obstacles.
Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including design, use, repair, and maintenance.
Strong self‑management skills: setting realistic goals, initiative, effort, and commitment to timely completion of assignments; minimal supervision required.
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the State of Alaska, obtained within 120 days of hire.
Required Documents (at interview)
Copy of Class A CDL, front and back (if applicable).
Three professional references, including name, title, and phone number.
