Overview
POSITION PURPOSE
Under supervision of the Manager, maintains hospital HVAC equipment. Ensures compliance with standard operating procedures and CIHQ regulations by coordinating, performing, and assignment of work requested through the hospital maintenance work request and preventative maintenance program.

Maintains and operates equipment; performs air conditioning and refrigeration repairs, electrical changes and repairs, electronic repairs and testing, and mechanical equipment repairs, and plumbing changes and repairs.
Participates in preventative maintenance programs
Tours hospital complex to observe operating equipment, meters and gauges to ensure that operation is in accord with specified instructions
Adjusts equipment controls to correct malfunction when indicated by observation or in response to a signal light
Notifies supervisor when major repairs or assistance is required
Records readings of meters, gauges and graphs on inspection sheet
Records repair work performed in logbook
Checks exterior lighting and accesses route to hospital
Inspects, installs, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, water, fuel and drainage systems
Constructs, repairs and maintains wooden structures such as furniture, equipment, partitions and other parts of the hospital
Performs repairs and installations of small refrigeration machines and assists in overhaul of major refrigeration machines
Reports all safety hazards to supervisor or administration in time of need
Ensures that work area and shop is in a clean and orderly condition to create a pleasant, comfortable and safe physical environment for patients, employees, medical staff and general public
Performs PMS and completes work orders as assigned
Performs a variety of routine standard servicing/repair operations to maintain hospital buildings, equipment, furnishing, fixtures and ground in proper condition as directed
Performs urgent, corrective, routine and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems as required; performs preventative maintenance on equipment and physical structures as required, maintaining related records
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors, adheres to all HMH policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity of service
May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and or night shifts if needed to meet deadlines. Will be required to work as necessary during disaster situations. Will be required to be in the on-call rotation
Sketches, plans, reads and interprets blueprints and manufacturers' specifications
Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct
Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI
Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately
Performs all other duties as assigned
Requirements
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Vocational or Technical training in Refrigeration preferred.
Experience:
One year refrigeration maintenance experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Current, valid driver's license required. HVAC certification preferred.
Required Skills:
Ability to read blueprints and equipment schematics.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Frequent: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching & climbing.
Occasional: sitting, bending, squatting, kneeling, & twisting.
Visual and hearing acuity required; Work is both inside and outside.
Possible exposure to: loud noise, extreme temperatures, toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens.
