Summary
The Licensed Master Electrician will maintain all electrical distribution, fixtures and controls as described in the Performance Work Statement (PWS) on a government compound near Fort Belvoir in Alexandria, VA. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Master Electrician with a minimum of 5 years of experience. As an integral part of our operations and maintenance team, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in commercial buildings.

Union
This is a union workplace (International Union of Operating Engineers Local 99-99A, AFL‑CIO). Successful candidates are required to join the union.

Duties and Responsibilities

Design, install, modify, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment located in and near installation buildings and structures.

Maintain commercial electrical systems and associated equipment; apply knowledge of principles of electricity & electronics, including computation and measurements of common properties such as resistance, inductance, capacitance, voltage, and current.

Operate and maintain generators, automatic transfer switches, and associated equipment; test and maintain gasoline and diesel generators for proper electrical output.

Use and maintain a variety of hand, hydraulic, and power tools, and a wide variety of test equipment including test lamps, multimeters, circuit analyzers, and more.

Report to immediate supervisor for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all equipment during the shift.

Install and maintain distribution lines of various voltages, install new circuits and equipment, move or modify existing circuits, test and maintain lightning protection components.

Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment in accordance with national and local electrical codes and regulations.

Perform electrical inspections and troubleshoot issues to identify root causes and implement solutions.

Coordinate with clients, contractors, and other team members to plan and execute electrical projects within specified timelines and budgets.

Work from blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, technical manuals, and repair manuals to determine necessary repairs and replacements.

Test electrical systems and components using specialized equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety.

Maintain accurate records of work performed, including materials used, labor hours, and project details.

Mentor and train junior electricians and apprentices.

Stay updated on industry developments, codes, and standards to enhance skills and knowledge.

Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels.

Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and wiring to repair installed units.

Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Provide own hand tools and basic electrical test equipment (e.g., multimeter, circuit tracers, capacitor testers).

Licensed Master Electrician with a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in the trade.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Will be required to learn CPR.

Utilize safe practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations, maintain a safe and clean work environment, use required safety equipment and clothing (PPE), use lock‑out/tag‑out programs and follow all locally developed safety programs.

Work with hazardous materials such as asbestos or accumulated waste; work in confined spaces; discern colors, contrast, and depth; not afraid of heights.

U.S. citizenship.

Demonstrate skill in verbal and written communication.

Lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Valid electrician license and certifications required by state or local regulations.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.

Thorough understanding of electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards.

Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and climbing.

Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Frequently stand, walk, and use hand and finger dexterity.

Occasionally sit, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl.

Talk or hear frequently; taste or smell occasionally.

Work near moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic chemicals; outside weather conditions.
