Position: Maintenance Mechanic
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Shift: Days, work shifts may include weekends, afternoon, holidays or graveyards; be available to work call‑outs to repair equipment.
Pay: $32.53/hour+

Responsibilities
Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, repair and install all types of shredding and conveying machinery, equipment, buildings; perform various repairs on belts, bearings, pulleys, rollers and related equipment; perform welding to repair broken machinery and other welding‑related duties; work from drawings and blueprints to layout and assemble all types of steel construction and repairs; set up and operate machine tools for parts used in the plant and perform precision work as needed; operate heavy equipment to perform various duties in the mechanical repair department.
Perform welding, cutting, pipe fitting, fabrication, lubrication, and related repair as needed for production machinery and equipment including (but not limited to) conveyors, gear boxes, pumps, valves, compressors, and belt conveyor system.
Install & align necessary equipment for safe production operation or safe removal of similar equipment.
Prepare required paperwork regarding repairs completed as assigned.
Become familiar with and participate in initial and annual training for the following ISO 14000 requirements.
Become familiar with MSHA part 46 safety and training policies.
Install, dismantle, repair, reassemble and align machinery, equipment and tools as needed to improve function and operation.
Solve routine maintenance problems regarding equipment and machinery effectively.
Perform duties with verbal instructions and/or by reading and interpreting blueprints, charts, and tables.
Maintain proper records of the parts and materials used in maintenance jobs and job procedures.
Perform preventative and predictive maintenance activities on equipment as directed.
Operate cutting torch and plasma cutting in performing welding duties.
Operate a cutting torch and welder.
Perform lifting and rigging operations with mobile cranes once proper training has been received.
Clean up after each maintenance job is completed.
Inspect tools for proper operation and store them in the appropriate manner.
Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent is required, must be 18 years of age or older.
Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
Willingness to learn; training will be provided.
Two (2) year technical education preferred in mechanical maintenance with an emphasis in preventive maintenance.
Two to three years related mechanical maintenance experience preferred.
Ability to understand and interpret instructions, blueprints, drawings and sketches; knowledge and ability to set up and operate alignment equipment.
Ability to safely and effectively operate a man lift, scissors lift and forklift.
Ability to safely and effectively use hand tools, air and electric driven power tools, hoists, hand taps, dies, cutting torch, welding machines, wrenches, jacks, general and specialized machine tools, rigging equipment, brooms, picks, shovels and related equipment.
Ability to safely use hand tools, air tools, saws, ladders, hoists and related equipment.
Ability to read and understand instructions and troubleshooting guidelines.
Must have mechanical skills and the ability to understand and work on compressors and pumps; must pass a basic mechanical knowledge test.
Ability to accurately interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, verbal instructions and welding symbols.
Ability to adjust amperage on welding machine for different rods, and to adjust pressure gauges on welding gases for different metals.
Ability to safely and effectively operate cutting torch, plasma cutter, air hose, gas bottles, welding machine, welding helmet, cutting goggles, leather sleeves and related equipment. Work requires walking over rough surfaces, climbing ladders, pushing and pulling welding machines and gas carts.
Ability to perform all necessary mathematical functions and conversations. Ability to safely and effectively operate a shear, punch press, stationary drill, torch, welder, band saw, hammer, rule, square, compass, protractor, overhead crane, forklift and related equipment.
Knowledge and ability to read and understand micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, depth gauges and related measuring devices as well as other measuring tools; skill in setting up working stock in proper machine and adjust feed appropriately.
Knowledge of basic math calculations.
Ability to safely use hydraulic press, overhead cranes, forklifts, cable slings, nylon slings, various rigging combinations, general hand tools and related equipment.
Must possess a current or valid driver's license required to drive the registered plant vehicles off plant grounds.
Work requires pushing tool carts and carrying toolboxes, walking over rough surfaces, climbing ladders; lifting and handling tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lb.; working at elevated heights; and regularly working in awkward positions, in confined spaces and frequently bending and crouching.

Work Environment
Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 350 ft. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
