Generator Field Repair Technician
Echo Electric, a brand owned by Sonepar, is a leader in electrical distribution covering Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, Nebraska, and Southern South Dakota. Echo Electric has an opening for a Generator field repair technician to be based out of our Ankeny, IA location. The field technician position involves startup, troubleshooting, repair & maintenance of standby generators and related equipment.
Hours: Monday – Friday; 8 AM – 5 PM (hours will vary depending on customer needs).
Responsibilities
Reports to the generator division manager.
Provide the generator division manager and inside service department with information needed to allow the service department to assist with final project services such as startup, testing, routine maintenance and repair work.
Perform repairs, startups, troubleshooting & maintenance on standby generator systems.
Provide as needed updates to the generator team and make recommended/required repairs known to the customer base.
Engage in continued education to increase knowledge of product line and the power generation industry.
Submit required paperwork and reports such as expense reports, quotes, and job status updates in a timely manner.
Follow up on projects as needed to help ensure jobs are delivered, installed and started up in line with manufacturer’s guidelines.
Maintain good customer relations.
Perform other duties as instructed.
Participate in onsite project reviews, open houses, and trade shows as needed.
Help inform customers of new products and changes to product offerings.
Work closely with outside sales staff and Echo generator division team members.
Qualifications
Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools for equipment repair.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including generator repair.
Ability to lift heavy equipment safely.
Experience in vehicle maintenance to ensure operational readiness for fieldwork.
Familiarity with schematics to assist in troubleshooting and repair processes.
Sales skills are a plus for promoting additional services or products to clients.
Previous experience as a service technician or mechanic is highly desirable.
