6:30 am – 7:00 pm
3rd or 4th weekend rotation

Unit Overview

The 8300 Medical‑Surgical Oncology Unit at TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital is a 44‑bed unit caring for a diverse patient population with medical‑surgical needs including cardiothoracic, abdominal, vascular, gastrointestinal, women’s health, surgeries and surgical oncology patients. The unit provides a supportive learning environment for both new graduates and experienced nurses, offering the chance to master advanced clinical skills such as care of cardiothoracic surgical patients, chest tubes, and patients undergoing oncology or vascular treatments. Nurses develop significant expertise in cancer care, surgical oncology, and managing complex conditions related to acute and chronic vascular diseases. Advanced medical equipment essential for cancer treatment is handled, and the team is committed to continuous professional growth, encouraging certifications in Medical‑Surgical Nursing, GERO‑BC, palliative care, and ONS Chemotherapy Certification.

Job Requirements

2 years of high school education
Age 17 with work permit
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Reading and math ability appropriate to the position
Experience as an STNA, PCA or ACT strongly preferred
Job Responsibilities

Performs and documents basic patient care tasks under RN supervision; maintains competency in trained skills, completes assignments on time, and seeks clarification when needed.
Maintains a safe, clean environment by reporting hazards, following Infection Control policies, completing safety event reports, and adhering to safety and emergency procedures.
Communicates effectively and respectfully with patients, families, and team members; reports patient information and assignment issues promptly; documents observations accurately; collaborates with the healthcare team and uses the chain of command appropriately.
Supports unit operations by performing supply, equipment, and environmental tasks; reports shortages or equipment problems and ensures supplies/equipment are ready for the next user.
Demonstrates accountability and commitment to self‑growth; identifies areas for improvement and supports organizational and unit changes.
