
Assistant Controller-BLD (Houston SE)

D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for an Assistant Controller for their Accounting Department. The right candidate will, under the direction of the Division Controller, assist in managing all aspects of the division’s historical reporting, anticipatory budgeting and financial projections, and act as the conscience of the division, involving fiduciary responsibilities, business process improvement and challenging the thinking/decisions of the entire management team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare House Profit Analyses and review gross profit margins for each sales contract
Review job costs for budget variances, cost code errors, and other posting errors on invoices and resolve with proper departments
Conduct monthly close procedures and ensure that deadlines are met, including preparing journal entries and accruals
Post bank deposits and create related cash receipt journals
Process timely payment of property taxes and monthly amortization
Monitor fixed asset purchases and ensure timely capitalization and depreciation of assets
Responsible for various weekly, monthly, and ad hoc analyses and reports for management team
Oversee Due Diligence Reconciliation and review quarterly and monthly project budgets
Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
Assist vendors with any questions as needed
Additional duties as assigned
Maintain regular and reliable attendance
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises 2 or more employees in the Accounting Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Accounting from a four‑year college or university; or 4 to 6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent analytical skills
Ability to accurately and efficiently process and record large volumes of data
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills; ability to work well with all levels of personnel
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form or via DRH applications
Proficiency with MS Office (Excel and Outlook)
Ability to sit for majority of an 8‑hour workday
Acceptable noise level is generally moderate
