Position Summary
This position reports to and performs work for the Brenham, Texas site but works on-site at our Houston facility, Valmont-United Galvanizing (VUG). The Shipping Utility incumbent is an Individual Contributor responsible for effectively functioning in all shipping and material handler operations of the department on a daily basis and acting as a backup when necessary.

1st shift (Days) Monday - Friday 7AM - 3PM

Pay Rate
Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG6): $24.47 + $0.75 per hour Utility allowance.

Qualified Internal Candidates will have their current step progression reviewed when determining new pay rate offered.

Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years.

Essential Functions

Be available to back up any Shipping position as needed based on demand.

Be prepared to assist the Lead Person in the following activities and fill in for the Lead Person when he/she is absent.

Continuously monitor inventories on a regular basis, including evaluating the adequacy of inventory-related systems, security, storage and handling.

Reconcile actual counts with specific work in process and raw material locations and inventory balances.

Review inventory data for accuracy and compliance with procedures.

Coordinate and assure the prompt resolution of lost or damaged material with the support and cooperation of Manufacturing, the Storeroom, Quality Assurance and Purchasing.

Report results of audits and conditions causing errors and omissions in inventory transactions to appropriate management.

Identify parts and/or specific locations of material to be audited and analyzed.

Inform and train operating personnel regarding inventory control methods and procedures as directed.

Provide recommendations for innovations and improvements to all inventory processes, procedures and controls.

Review IFS item set-up, including bill of material and routing to check for accuracy when resolving inventory problems.

Draw comparison between data set-up and blueprints and report discrepancies to engineering.

Report damage or unusable inventory found during audit process to appropriate personnel.

Focus on lean processes, problem solving as well as 5S creating a visual factory.

Handle material for any product necessary.

Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job.

Make management aware of any training needs you have. Consult your management immediately if you are being asked to perform work for which you are not trained and/or are not comfortable due to potential safety or risk implications.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

One year manufacturing or shipping experience.

Must be able to read & write.

Must be able to do basic math; add, subtract, multiply & divide.

Excellent verbal & written communication skills.

Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Must be able to analyze and document inventory related problems, whether caused by the system, procedures or other causes.

Highly Qualified Candidates

One year experience in a leadership role.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts
During about 60% of the workday, the incumbent is required to walk, stand, stoop, bend, squat, lift and move objects in order to count material. The rest of the day involves sedentary tasks such as operating a computer and attending meetings. The environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office and utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height, keyboard location and wrist rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, although the most frequent weight manipulated is under 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The incumbent will also be exposed to production facilities where PPE such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection will be required. Frequent exposure to outside elements for short periods of time and material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks may occur.
