A Brief Summary Of This Position
The Welder works under the direction of the Production Supervisor or Lead Person and is responsible for setup and assembly of products for the unit by performing production welding and tack welding to pole shafts using the GMAW process.

Standard Shift:

3rd shift (Nights) Monday - Friday 11PM - 7AM

Pay:

Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG6): $24.47 + $1.00 per hour shift differential

Benefits:

Eligible for annual discretionary bonus. Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years.

Essential Functions

Uses GMAW process to tack weld various small components to round or square shafts to make a pole assembly for structural welds.

Manually position shaft on stationary turner to position shaft for assembly.

Moves under, around, and over poles as necessary to assemble pole assembly.

Uses jib crane for lifting various components, such as base plate and arm mounting simplex, into position for assembly.

Frequently pushes, lifts, and pulls up to 50 pounds.

Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed to assemble pole assembly.

Locate and gather parts needed for assembly from parts staging area staged by the storeroom personnel.

Uses plasma torch to cut steel.

Utilizes jigs made at Valmont for cutting holes in shafts for inserting hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex’s, couplings, and other small parts.

Uses tape measure, micrometer, levels, squares, and angle finders to measure distances and angles.

Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides feet, inches, fractions, and decimals. Uses table to convert fractions to decimals, and decimals to fractions.

Works in confined areas at various locations of the pole assembly line to accurately measure and assemble components.

Uses motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble products.

Maintains safety awareness and is alert at all times to detect, avoid, and correct unsafe conditions.

Maintains appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job.

Communicates training needs to management; consults management if asked to perform work not trained to avoid safety risk.

Wears protective goggles or hood to protect eyes from harmful rays.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Must be able to read and write English.

Ability to use common manufacturing math.

6 months previous experience welding in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, and/or graduation from an acceptable technical training program focused on welding.

Must pass GMAW 1‑G flat plate and/or rotational weld test and maintain certification.

Highly Qualified

High School Diploma or GED.

1 year previous experience welding in an assembly environment.

1 year previous experience welding in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.

1 year previous experience operating hand and/or power tools.

Ability to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assurance.

Demonstrates passion and integrity, drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

Working Environment And Physical Efforts

Must be able to stand for the duration of scheduled shifts.

Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling under or over, and occasional climbing.

Lifting up to 50 pounds 10% of the time; average weight of parts lifted is 25 pounds.

Must possess adequate dexterity and stamina to sustain expected production effectively.

Mental and Visual Effort
Continual awareness and concentration to assure a safe, efficient operation and material flow to exit. Must have eyesight correctable to 20/20 or better.
