A well-established nonprofit organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to support property accounting, financial reporting, and compliance across multiple real estate entities. This is a highly collaborative role working closely with Finance and Business Office teams, with a strong focus on Yardi-based accounting, rental analysis, and general ledger integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Review and analyze general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data
Support and help drive the month‑end and year‑end close process, including preparation of journal entries and accruals
Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements for assigned entities
Perform balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
Coordinate and review Yardi rent rolls and rental receivables, ensuring accuracy in:
Tenant setup
Income recording
Cash receipts
Allowances
Prepare journal entries, rental analysis, and monthly operating statements
Ensure timely distribution of monthly financial reports
Maintain and monitor:
Tenant security deposits
Section 8 payments
Reserve accounts
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to funding institutions
Support audits by preparing schedules and responding to requests from regulatory and funding agencies
Review and maintain lease schedules and prepare year‑end lease obligations
Assist with budget preparation and fiscal year planning
Help improve processes and reduce reporting errors through strong analysis and documentation
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting (or related field)
3+ years of accounting experience, ideally within nonprofit and/or real estate/property accounting
Strong understanding of GAAP and FASB standards
Experience preparing financial statements and working through close cycles
Required Skills & Tools
Yardi experience (required)
Strong Excel skills
Experience with general ledger, accruals, and prepaid expenses
Ability to analyze financial data and communicate findings clearly
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines
Must-Have Experience
Affordable housing and/or property accounting experience
Hands‑on experience with:
Accruals and prepaid expenses
Full ownership of an entity's financials (balance sheet + income statement)
Balance sheet analysis and reconciliations
