
Temporary Technician (Aubrey)

Position Summary
The University of Georgia’s Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) and Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources are seeking a full‑time, temporary Research Technician to support monitoring forest fuels. The ideal candidate will have experience in wildland fire, including current “red card” certification, and knowledge of standard wildland fire management program requirements, methods, procedures, fire behavior, hazards, and safety practices. The role requires the ability to perform under stressful and adverse operating conditions, communicate effectively, work independently or as part of a team, troubleshoot equipment, and possess basic laboratory and data‑management skills.
Key Responsibilities
Data collection (60%)
Data processing (30%)
Maintain physical fitness (10%)
Physical Demands
This is a field position. Outdoor working conditions can occasionally be harsh, with hot and humid environments. Driving is required to complete job duties.
Requirements
• Full‑time (40 hr/week), temporary position.
• Experience in wildland fire and current “red card” certification.
• Knowledge of wilderness fire management practices and safety procedures.
• Ability to work in stressful, long‑hour, and adverse environmental conditions.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, troubleshoot equipment, and manage basic laboratory tasks.
• Physical fitness and capability to drive as needed.
