Job Responsibilities
Utilize industry-standard techniques and internal processes to produce precise project estimates. Prepare comprehensive proposal letters, evaluate materials and pricing meticulously, and ensure compliance with project requirements. Vigilantly incorporate all project updates and changes into estimates promptly for accuracy.
Offer specialized guidance on vendor selection, meticulously evaluate pricing quotes, and assess vendor proposals for technical adherence and quality.
Review project plans and specifications to gain a complete understanding of the project's scope. Assist with scope qualifications, exclusions, and final pricing while working with the business development team to finalize proposals. Review architectural, structural, and civil documents to examine their impact on the mechanical and plumbing scope of work.
Communicate all project issues to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Report issues to customers concerning project specifications, scope, value engineering possibilities, timelines, or other items pertaining to a bid.
Identify, develop, and communicate policies and procedures for continuous improvement, including project cost savings opportunities.
Organize and maintain estimating project files in a clear and coherent manner while overseeing the department bid database.
Monitor and maintain current technical knowledge of piping, plumbing, and sheet metal estimating, installation practices, and procedures.
Assist with project turnover to project management and field.
Conduct and attend interviews and job meetings according to customer and company needs to discuss projects.
Provide assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required.
May provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced colleagues.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Relevant degrees in similar disciplines will also be considered.
2+ years of commercial mechanical estimating experience required.
