Job Overview
The Controller, General Ledger Accounting is a senior management role reporting to the Director, General Ledger Accounting. The role oversees the East Region’s General Ledger Accounting team and ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery of monthly financial statements while maintaining strong internal controls and aligning departmental processes with the Global Client Accounting Shared Services vision.

The Controller serves as a hands‑on leader and technical accounting expert, supporting the General Ledger Accounting team and collaborating closely with the Director and financial management leadership to deliver exceptional service to internal stakeholders and external clients. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing complex accounting operations while driving consistency, continuous improvement, and strong interpersonal relationships across the organization.

This is a remote position eligible for residents of NC and SC.

Your Responsibilities

Manage and develop a team of General Ledger Accountants, including recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance evaluation.

Provide day‑to‑day leadership, guidance, and support to ensure workload balance, meet deadlines, and maintain quality standards.

Help the Director in developing and retaining high‑performing, diverse talent and fostering an engaged, collaborative team culture.

Clearly communicate expectations, responsibilities, goals, and performance standards.

Conduct regular check‑ins, one‑on‑one meetings, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching.

Identify performance gaps and partner with the Director on development plans, coaching, or corrective action when necessary.

Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, cooperation, and continuous learning.

Oversee the preparation, review, and timely distribution of monthly financial statements in accordance with internal procedures, regulatory requirements, management agreements, and client expectations.

Review monthly financials for accuracy, completeness, and compliance; investigate and resolve variances as needed.

Ensure proper property and financial reporting setup in accordance with governing documents and company standards.

Partner with the Director to identify, recommend, and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

Support standardization of processes and workflows in alignment with global shared services and center‑of‑excellence initiatives.

Work closely with Financial Management leadership to strengthen collaboration and enhance the quality of financial services provided to clients.

Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting.

Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting leadership or supervisory experience, preferably within property management, real estate, or shared services environments.

Residential property management experience preferred.

Ability to lead people, processes, and systems with a hands‑on approach.

Solid technical accounting skills.

Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong financial acumen and analytical capabilities.

Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and deadline‑management skills.

Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.

Proven ability to prioritize, manage multiple deliverables, and meet tight deadlines.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across teams and levels.

Demonstrated commitment to service excellence.

Physical Requirements

Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 25 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day, including climbing several flights of stairs if necessary.

Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Must be able to communicate both on the phone and in person with clients to resolve issues and manage the business.

Must have finger dexterity for typing/using a keyboard.

Must be mobile enough to move around the office to make copies, send mail and faxes, and walk around property, including lengthy walks on uneven areas.

Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and other associates.

Capable of working extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

Position may alternate between working indoors in a controlled environment and outdoors in variable climate and lighting conditions.

Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail‑oriented, and possess good reasoning skills.

Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes, and delays, maintaining focus and work efficiency under such circumstances.

Must be able to work effectively and cheerfully in an environment that may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from duty performance.

Compensation
$110,000 - $120,000 per annum
