Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Managed File Transfer (MFT) Engineer / System Analyst III to support and enhance enterprise MFT platforms within a large-scale environment, with a strong focus on driving AI adoption and implementation, delivering platform enhancements, advancing automation, and enabling smarter operational support.
This role is focused primarily on engineering, platform enhancements, automation, and ongoing project initiatives, with limited operational responsibilities.
The environment leverages IBM Sterling ecosystem, including Sterling File Gateway (SFG) and IBM Connect:Direct, and requires deep technical expertise to design, optimize, and automate secure file transfer solutions.
Primary production monitoring and Level 1 / Level 2 support are handled by an offshore support team; this role acts as an L3 escalation point when required.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and enhance enterprise Managed File Transfer (MFT) solutions using IBM Sterling platforms
Provide Level 3 (L3) on call and escalation support for production issues when escalated beyond offshore support teams
Focus on engineering initiatives, including:
Platform enhancements and optimization
Automation of MFT processes, monitoring, recovery, and alerting
Support for ongoing and new MFT related projects
Support and administer IBM Sterling technologies, including:
Sterling File Gateway (SFG)
Sterling Secure Proxy (SSP)
Sterling External Authentication Server (SEAS)
Sterling B2B Integrator (B2Bi)
IBM Connect:Direct
Analyze current systems and workflows to identify gaps, performance issues, and automation opportunities
Perform impact and gap analysis, designing and implementing configuration changes, integrations, or system improvements
Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure, security, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions
Develop and maintain technical artifacts, including:
Integration and interface specifications
Test plans and deployment strategies
Support, operational, and design documentation
Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on secure file transfer architecture and best practices
On Call & Support Model
Day to day production monitoring and support are handled by an offshore operations team
This role participates in the on call rotation only as an L3 escalation engineer
On call responsibilities focus on complex technical issues, root cause analysis, and permanent fixes, not routine operational support
Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience supporting enterprise integration or application platforms
Strong hands on experience with IBM Sterling MFT, especially Sterling File Gateway (SFG) and Connect:Direct (required)
Proven ability to design and deliver engineering enhancements, automation, and reliability improvements in MFT environments
Experience evaluating existing integration systems and recommending improvements to stability, scalability, and workflow efficiency
Hands on experience or strong interest in AI adoption and implementation, including:
Applying AI/ML or intelligent automation to integration platforms, monitoring, alerting, and incident analysis
Using AI driven tools to improve operational efficiency, proactive issue detection, and root cause analysis
Strong documentation, analytical, and problem solving skills
Ability to work effectively with distributed and remote teams
Preferred / Additional Skills
Experience with automation frameworks, scripting, or orchestration tools
Strong Linux/Unix knowledge and familiarity with enterprise scheduling systems
EDI experience in-depth is not required; emphasis is on SFG, Connect:Direct, automation, AI adoption, and modernization initiatives
