Reading Partners - Become a Reading Tutor in Hunts Point!
Reading Partners NYC is a volunteer opportunity in your community! Help an elementary school student improve their reading skills by providing them with one-on‑one individualized tutoring using Reading Partners' structured, evidence‑based curriculum.
We are currently seeking volunteer tutors for our two new Bronx partner schools in NYC School District 8 in Hunts Point:
P.S. 048 Joseph R. Drake .
Tutoring Details
Tutoring sessions are only one hour and take place from Monday through Thursday between 8:00 am and 2:30 pm, with the possibility of after‑school tutoring sessions from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
No experience is required. Reading Partners provides an easy‑to‑follow curriculum that includes an interactive script, detailed lesson plans, and volunteer support so you can teach an effective lesson.
Commitment
Volunteers need to be able to tutor one hour per week, one session per week.
Follow the Reading Partners structured curriculum.
Sessions are held at the same day/time and with the same student each week.
Requirements to Get Started
Positive attitude, willingness to learn, celebrate differences, and support young learners.
Complete a volunteer application, schedule a 1.5‑hour Tutor Orientation, and complete a background check with the NYC Department of Education.
Age minimum: 18 +.
After expressing interest, the Opportunity Leader will contact you to confirm participation and provide directions.
