
Inventory Control Specialist

Position Summary
The Inventory Control Specialist is a hands‑on, hub‑based role responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy, integrity, and standard work at an assigned location. This role executes cycle counts, outbound and receiving audits, variance tracking, and exception follow‑up. Working under Inventory Control (IC) leadership, the specialist ensures accurate inventory records, escalates discrepancies per policy, and supports consistent execution across operations. This role plays a key part in protecting inventory, supporting service and cost goals, and maintaining a reliable audit and cycle count program.
What You'll Do
Execute cycle counts, audits, and inventory reviews to maintain accuracy and integrity
Document and elevate variances, discrepancies, and negative inventory per IC policy
Identify patterns or recurring issues and communicate findings to leadership
Support root cause analysis by providing observations, count history, and audit data
Conduct targeted audits (high‑risk items, problem locations, exception categories)
Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation; submit results daily
Reinforce inventory control best practices and standard work across operations
Partner with Operations, Transportation, Purchasing, Finance, and CI teams on inventory initiatives
Support inventory governance activities including adjustments, RTVs, and compliance requirements
Assist with training and guidance to improve inventory process execution
Knowledge & Experience
Understanding of inventory control principles (cycle counting, reconciliation, variance management)
Familiarity with warehouse operations (receiving, picking, staging, shipping, transfers, returns)
Experience with inventory systems (WMS/ERP) and reporting tools
Awareness of inventory accuracy metrics and audit expectations
Skills
Strong attention to detail in counting, documentation, and data entry
Ability to identify patterns, discrepancies, and anomalies
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Excel and inventory systems
Strong organization and time management skills
Abilities
Work independently while collaborating with cross‑functional teams
Adapt priorities based on inventory risks and operational needs
Maintain professionalism and discretion when handling discrepancies
Safely operate material‑handling equipment if required
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred)
1'3 years of inventory control, warehouse, or related experience
Experience with cycle counts or physical inventory processes
Proven ability to document accurately and follow through on tasks
Basic computer proficiency (Excel or similar tools)
Strong communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience owning and managing cycle count schedules
Background in outbound audits or receiving verification
Experience with WMS/ERP systems (K8 a plus)
Ability to proactively identify issues without direction
Forklift certification or equipment operation experience
