POSITION DETAILS
New York City College of Technology (City Tech or the College) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degrees in technology and health related degree programs, other career-oriented degrees and liberal arts transfer degrees in its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Technology and Design, and Professional Studies. We are the largest public college of technology in New York State, and exceptional in that we go beyond traditional class offerings to create a high-tech, hands‑on educational experience for our students in order to prepare them for a rapidly changing world. City Tech is one of ten CUNY colleges designated as leading research institutions in 2025’s Carnegie Classifications of Institutions of Higher Education. It was ranked 22 overall and ranked number 15 as a top performer on social mobility in US News and World Report’s Best College Rankings (within Regional Colleges North). City Tech seeks an exceptional leader to serve as Dean of the School of Technology and Design.
The School of Technology & Design blends theory and practice to prepare students for careers in engineering, design, media technologies, architecture, construction, and related fields. With a strong emphasis on digital modeling, production tools, systems integration, and real‑world materials and processes, the School serves sectors ranging from communication design and new media to facilities management, telecommunications, robotics, and environmental systems.
The School is organized into the following departments:

Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering Technology
Entertainment Technology

Mechanical Engineering Technology
Reporting to the Provost, and serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Dean provides strategic vision and operational leadership to all aspects of the School’s academic and scholarly programs. In concert with the faculty and staff, the Dean will be responsible for student and faculty recruitment, retention and diversity, advancing scholarly activities, support of students’ career‑readiness and career‑focused curricular updates and innovation, fund raising, oversight of the School's budget and facilities, promotion of interdisciplinary approaches through partnerships with other academic units, and a culture of caring and support.
The Dean’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Providing strategic leadership and administrative support for course scheduling, accreditation, assessment and continuous improvement
Supporting faculty, students, and staff to advance the college’s mission
Supporting research and scholarly activities
Ensuring the effective management of financial resources and facilities, including budget planning and management
Engaging with alumni, donors, potential donors and other collaborators
Strategically recruiting new faculty and supporting them through the tenure and promotion process
Promoting professional development opportunities
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
An earned doctorate or equivalent with a record of distinguished scholarship, research, and teaching.
Significant administrative experience and evidence of leadership in a diverse academic community.
A demonstrated facility for fundraising and curricular development is highly desirable.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$160,000 - $190,000. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
