Lead Technician - Facilities (Operations)

Lead Technician Facilities is a working supervisor position that plans and oversees daily operations within the Logistics Department. The role maintains safe operating standards, acts as a key communication link between supervisors and technicians, and keeps logs and records as required. It requires proactive organization, strong leadership, and communication skills to foster a productive team environment.

Essential Functions

Plan and execute school moves, general routines, furniture distribution, transportation of city schools assets, disposal of furniture, and daily operations of schools.

Support vendor and contractor projects, including water bottle distribution, related supplies, and solid waste management under supervisor guidance.

Manage and maintain inventory of logistics equipment, including tables, chairs, tools, dollies, and flatbeds.

Maintain, track, and report accurate digital records of all logistics equipment using management systems.

Conduct routine facility inspections, report conditions, develop action plans, and initiate work orders.

Initiate work orders in the computerized management maintenance system (CMMS), estimating labor and material costs.

Perform, assign, and supervise the work of logistics personnel; assist in training and development of team members.

Organize and secure the storage room to ensure efficient operations and easy equipment access.

Communicate with school administration about work order status and coordinate work activities.

Perform all logistical duties requiring effective verbal, written, and computer communication skills and complete written reports as requested.

Promote compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies and applicable federal, state, and school board laws.

Utilize resources efficiently, communicate status of work, participate fully as a team member, and exercise sound judgment and decision‑making skills to resolve sensitive matters.

Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Desired Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.

Minimum five years of practical experience in facilities maintenance and operations.

Direct experience in school plant operations and facilities preferred.

Building maintenance certifications preferred.

Valid State of Maryland driver’s license.

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.

Ability to quickly gain knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations in logistics.

Analytical skills to recommend and implement workable solutions.

Ability to work effectively with principals, teachers, administrators, and the public.

Customer‑service orientation toward schools districtwide.

Proficiency with personal computers and office applications.

Knowledge of building codes, standards, ordinances, regulations, and ability to read blueprints.

Strong interpersonal, presentation, oral, and written communication skills.

Ability to prioritize multiple projects and handle technical issues and contingencies simultaneously.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with consultants, contractors, and city schools personnel.

Salary
Maximum Salary: $55.60 per hour. Minimum Salary: $31.53 per hour.
