Starter/Ranger-Player Assistant
Position Title: Starter/Ranger-Player Assistant Department: Golf Operations
Reports To: Head Golf Professional FLSA Designation: Non-exempt
Position Purpose
Greet members and guests at the Practice Facility. Control the 1st and 10th tees by monitoring group start times on the daily tee sheet. Ensure groups are at their starting hole 5 minutes before their tee time to guarantee on‑time starts. Monitor the 1st and 10th tees as groups turn from one side to the other for correct pace of play. Ride the course after all groups have been started to assist all players, especially slower groups, and remind players of special course conditions.
Essential Functions
40%: Provide information regarding course conditions, pace of play guidelines, and general information about course activities. Arrange players in proper starting order and help players choose appropriate tees for their skill level.
40%: Patrol the golf course to maintain the NGGC standard pace of play and keep the golf shop or designated assistant informed of pace‑of‑play issues.
5%: While riding the course to monitor play, ensure all divots and ball marks are repaired, check that all bunkers are being raked, and pick up any debris on the golf course.
3%: Maintain a clean and orderly appearance of the starter’s booth, Practice Facility, and comfort stations at all times. Assist Bev Cart Attendant with food and beverage requests.
3%: Supply scorecards, pencils, ball markers, and divot tools as needed to all players. Explain the Laserlink yardage system.
3%: Fill and replace all empty divot mix bottles at both refill boxes as needed.
3%: Advise the golf shop of any complaints or damage as it occurs.
3%: Assist with the organization and execution of member tournaments and events, resort group outings, and other special events as needed.
Supportive Functions
Direct communications with Golf Shop and Cart Barn.
Arrange and place bags appropriately on golf carts.
Assist members and guests with any needs or questions (e.g., ashtray, extra sand bottles, etc.).
Required Knowledge, Skill and Ability
Must be very organized and have the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to achieve positive guest relations and maximize guest satisfaction.
Ability to grasp, lift, carry or transport up to 50 pounds.
