BAS Controls Design Engineer

Job Summary
EMCOR Services Automated Controls seeks a BAS Hardware Engineer at our Indianapolis, IN location. The candidate will join our automation design team supporting commercial and industrial projects. Responsibilities include designing systems architecture, producing control schematics, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, programming, and bill of material lists based on client needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Attend project turnover meetings with sales and project team.

Design building automation systems and create project submittals/shop drawings using construction plans and specifications.

Identify gaps or ambiguity in the project and submit RFIs.

Establish and maintain unique customer standards in design/build and plan/spec markets.

Mentor new employees and assist in their growth.

Write control sequences and coordinate design intent with programmers.

Provide operational and technical support/direction to field operations and subcontractors.

Obtain field markups and revise shop drawings with changes for owner records.

Maintain backups of all project documentation, including record drawings, on construction management software.

Develop strong relationships with new and existing customers.

Escalate critical issues to the Engineering Manager / Project Manager with recommendations.

Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs.

Perform additional assignments as required.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in related engineering/technology field required; bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.

In lieu of a degree, a combination of verifiable DDC specific training and two or more years of experience will be considered.

Experience with DDC or PLC design preferred.

Strong understanding of low voltage electrical wiring.

Experience in engineering, design, or installation/service of HVAC systems.

Strong understanding of commercial electrical, HVAC, and control theory fundamentals.

Knowledge of construction industry and contract documentation.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel); advanced spreadsheet skills a plus.

Familiarity with AutoCAD, Visio, and other electrical, technical, or construction programs.

Experience with third‑party equipment integration over protocols such as BACnet or Modbus.

Programming experience is a plus.
