Job Description

ArcelorMittal is seeking a high initiative, self-directed experienced engineer with strong expertise in mechanical or metallurgical engineering, with knowledge of steel products and experience in the various energy infrastructure - line pipe manufacturing, welding, testing and characterization. The successful candidate is expected to engage with customers to understand their materials and application needs, and should be able to apply them to initiate and oversee new product development and testing activities; should also be familiar with material standards related to energy industry and participate in corresponding standard committees. Candidate should also be familiar with joining processes used in line pipe manufacturing and end applications. Additionally, the candidate is expected to conduct applied R&D activities, work collaboratively with customers in materials and applications in the energy market segment. Candidate is also expected to work with ArcelorMittal R&D facilities and draw on relevant learnings to support North American energy segment customers.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Within ArcelorMittal, Voice of the customer - energy majors and line pipe manufacturers.
Identify, develop and nurture relationships with technical decision makers at energy majors and their suppliers.
Track technology trends in materials, design and manufacturing relevant to the transportation of conventional and emerging energy products (Hydrogen, CO2, etc.).
Keep up with current and evolving standards related to steel products applied to line pipe and associated joining processes in the energy market segment.
Represent ArcelorMittal and actively participate in standards and research councils related to line pipe products.
Steer new product development activities for applications in the conventional and emerging energy infrastructure.
Job Duties

Comply with the company’s Health & Safety policy.
Develop a strong technical relationship with personnel who are technology drivers at our customers - energy majors and line pipe suppliers.
Identify opportunities to initiate collaborative technical activities with customers - energy majors and/or line pipe manufacturers.
Participate in appropriate joint Industry project activities and identify opportunities to include components made from our industrial products.
Actively engage in setting priorities for new product development and application-oriented R&D activities in support of key customers.
Reach out to other ArcelorMittal R&D centers and explore synergies in activities in support of energy market segment, specifically with customers who have global presence.
As needed travel to customer facilities to have periodic technical exchanges and feel the pulse of the customer, to develop ArcelorMittal’s short-term and/or long-term business strategies.
Work in a team environment consisting of team members from other groups at R&D and commercial departments.
Communicate results in a time-efficient and effective manner to the appropriate stakeholders to enable efficient decision making.
Minimum Education Requirements

M.S. in materials engineering or M.S. in mechanical engineering with a background in applied mechanics and fracture.
Preferred Experience

Minimum 10 years of experience in the energy infrastructure industry.
Familiarity with steel product design and selection for conventional line pipe applications and transportation of Hydrogen and CO2.
Experience working with steel applications in energy market segment and working knowledge of steel metallurgy, joining processes and relevant material testing.
Experience in managing application-oriented projects.
