About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated RedHat Linux/Unix Systems Administrator to join our 24x7 enterprise support organization. The administrator will be responsible for developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining the operating system and related software. This role establishes and implements standards for computer operations to ensure compatibility between hardware and software, according to specifications and parameters. The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual who can work independently and collaboratively to ensure the stability, security, and performance of mission‑critical systems. This position differs from an Operating Systems Programmer as it does not involve altering the operating system's software code.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain servers running RedHat Linux operating systems, adhering to established internal processes.
Recommend hardware and software upgrades based on growth statistics; schedule, plan, and perform system upgrades, including coordinating the transition from test to production environments.
Monitor log files and system performance to identify and resolve software, operating system, and networking problems in mission‑critical systems.
Schedule, perform, and monitor system backups and, when necessary, perform data recoveries.
Configure hardware such as workstations, printers, servers, and tape devices.
Participate in an on‑call rotation to provide timely support for UNIX/Linux‑related issues and provide general technical support for system users.
Follow standard operating procedures to maintain and enhance the security posture of the environment, including adherence to the DISA STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) process.
Schedule tasks using software support tools and scripts.
Work both independently and as part of a team to set priorities and organize tasks to meet deadlines.
Stay updated on emerging technologies and advancements related to Linux/UNIX systems.
Qualifications
5 years of experience for a BS/BA; 3 years for an MS/MA; 0 years for a PhD.
Active SECRET clearance.
Proven experience in RedHat Linux system administration.
Strong understanding of system security, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Ability to work in a 24x7 support environment, including participation in an on‑call rotation.
Excellent organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications in RedHat Linux or Unix OS administration.
Experience in enterprise‑level IT environments.
Familiarity with automation tools and scripting languages.
Salary and Benefits
Target Salary Range: $80,000 - $128,000. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
