
Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist.

Duties
Responsible for managing news media requests, researching queries, preparing subject matter experts, and overseeing social media and web presence.
Gives advice, counsel, and instructions to individual employees on both work and administrative matters.
Continually reviews and analyzes programs and policies and observes public reactions.
Develops, in coordination with other operating elements, public participation programs for surveys, environmental impact statements, and comprehensive studies in which formalized public participation is desired.
Responsible for management of the dissemination of general and technical information through the district to the general public regarding the activities and achievements of the District and all levels of the Corps of Engineers.
Oversees the development and maintenance of the District’s Strategic Engagement plan that provides guidance and direction for short and long range engagement planning.
Supervises and provides leadership to subordinates involved in carrying out the functions of the Public Affairs office.
Evaluates the relative effectiveness of the public affairs program and advises the Commander and staff members of areas of misunderstanding or opposition and the need for further coverage of specific topics.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid government motor vehicle operator's license.
Overtime may be required on short notice. Incumbent may be required to work extended and/or irregular hours to include weekends.

One year of specialized experience which includes developing and/or evaluating communication strategies to determine best methods to secure public acceptance of organizational projects or programs; planning and preparing internal personnel for communication or media interaction at various levels; preparing or overseeing release of information, such as news releases, features stories, speeches, written materials, and web communication related to current events and organizational missions; and supervision, leadership or experience directing teams. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
