Amazon’s North American Construction team seeks a Construction Manager to lead project management of new building planning, design, and construction, including extensions of existing facilities and new sites. The role combines construction engineering, planning, project management, facilities management, and contract management, requiring up to 60% regional travel.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee construction engineering, planning, and design for the North American facility network infrastructure and other new or expansion projects.
Support new fulfillment network buildings and additional capacity within existing North American Fulfillment Centers, Deliver Stations, or Sort Centers.
Lead construction scope review and development with internal operational customers, facilitating engineering and design efforts on new and remodel projects.
Manage multiple large‑sized ($100M+) projects simultaneously, working independently in the assigned regional area with minimal direction.
Prepare reports, specifications, technical analysis to define design requirements, equipment, and services for capacity expansion and remodel projects.
Oversee ground‑up shell, tenant improvement (TI), and engineering deployment for new facilities within the network.
Provide technical direction for engineering design/AutoCAD, building layouts, build details, schedules, and materials per North American Customer Fulfillment (NACF) design parameters.
Survey facilities, develop audit procedures, evaluate and recommend solutions to infrastructure, safety, and security problems.
Negotiate contracts with general contractors and trade contractors, ensuring fit‑for‑purpose, cost‑effective agreements with appropriate service level agreements.
Coordinate site management, planning, specification of business proposals, and subcontractor coordination.
Facilitate due diligence evaluation of new opportunities with internal stakeholders.
Support engineering buildouts, IT readiness, and turnover to operational groups.
Partner with teams managing transition of base building management and oversight of turnover documentation.
Coach and guide project teams throughout the full project lifecycle, ensuring quality and duration targets.
Audit contractors to confirm competence and fit for deployed work.
Communicate changes in resource or work demand to contractors.
Establish scheduling information systems for contract work recording.
Support contractors to achieve higher performance levels.
Oversee multiple projects across various locations simultaneously.
Review designs for conformance to current building specifications and identify value‑engineering opportunities.
Track, forecast, and manage budgets for expansion, remodel, and new‑build projects.
Review proposed cost and time change requests and guide internal changes for validity and impact.
Negotiate with Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) entities when required.
Maintain transparent cross‑team communication for all aspects of project delivery.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of project management, real estate development, architecture/design experience.
Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
