Residential Driver

Job Summary
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and the type of truck. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pickup services for containers filled with waste or recyclable material, sometimes weighing over 1,000 pounds and requiring manoeuvring of wheeled containers to pickup stages. Commercial Drivers navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, performing highly skilled backing manoeuvres. Residential Drivers collect residential household waste or recyclable material, safely manoeuvring vehicles in residential environments across similar traffic conditions. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, navigating driveways, alleyways, lots, and high‑traffic roadways, often in tight overhead environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements, and all local, state and federal laws.

Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks utilizing the standard DVIR.

Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.

Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required.

Work closely with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.

Notify the Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.

Notify the Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, closed or impassable streets or alleyways, heavy receptacles or potential safety hazards.

Communicate customer requests to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.

Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.

Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.

Perform all duties as scheduled by the Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.

Required Qualifications

1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL or 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.

Able to read, write and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions and complete records or reports.

Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.

Class A CDL with an air‑brake endorsement upon hire.

Class B CDL with an air‑brake endorsement upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications
