General Description:
Teachers are responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating instruction based upon standards set by the Virginia Department of Education and King George County Schools. Teachers engage students in diverse and dynamic learning opportunities intended to develop them as successful community members.
Essential Responsibilities
Use school division curriculum to plan and deliver instruction and activities that maximize learning time and result in student mastery and application of knowledge and skills.
Develop and implement instructional plans that are available for review.
Organize learning activities to achieve specific instructional goals.
Assess student learning on an ongoing basis, using formative and summative structures, and alter plans based on findings to meet individual and group needs.
Develop and maintain a positive and effective learning environment.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
Collaborate and communicate with other team members in planning and instruction to maximize educational success.
Takes all necessary precautions and actions to protect student safety and well‑being as well as school and division facilities, materials, and equipment.
Select and use appropriate instructional materials, tools, and technologies to meet individual and group needs.
Supervise students during instructional and non‑instructional time in and outside of the classroom (before and after school during school activities, field trips, emergency drills, during class changes, etc.).
Attend and participate in department and faculty meetings and other school functions, as assigned or requested.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local statutes, policies, regulations, and guidelines related to public school.
Effectively guide and supervise instructional assistants to enhance student learning outcomes.
Perform related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure in Special Education General Curriculum.
Applicant with teaching experience must have an acceptable rating from previous employer.
Ability to effectively use and integrate technology.
Salary Information
2026-2027 Proposed Teacher Salary Scale.

Educational Supplements:
Master's: +7% of base salary.
BA + 15: $750.
Teacher National Board Certification: $2,000.
Doctorate: $2,000.
Note: Salary steps do not necessarily equate with years of experience. Credit on the teacher salary scale will be awarded for full‑time teaching experience in a public or accredited private school. Other relevant experience may be given consideration.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
Employees are required to use hands to handle, feel, or reach objects, materials, and/or controls.
The employee must be able to lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
Regular contact with students, other staff, parents, medical professionals, and other community members may be required.
The employee must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.
Job responsibilities may include both inside and outside duties.
Sitting, standing, and walking may be required for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching may be needed to perform some duties.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Hearing and speaking is required for the exchange of information.
Use of computer or other device screens is necessary.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
Additional Information
This is a 10‑month/200 day position. Position Type: Full‑Time. Salary: $52,006 to $105,597 Per Year.
