Sr Phlebotomist - Elkton, MD US Remote

Position Summary
A Sr. Phlebotomist serves patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and performing screening procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

Verify test requisitions, compare with the nursing station log, and address discrepancies with unit personnel.

Verify patient identity by reading patient identification.

Obtain blood specimens via venipuncture and finger sticks.

Maintain specimen integrity using aseptic technique and adherence to department procedures and isolation protocols.

Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, noting collection times, and maintaining daily tallies.

Ensure quality results by following the department’s schedule, recording results in the quality‑control log, and identifying/reporting necessary changes.

Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following all standards, procedures, and legal regulations.

Resolve unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, nursing station or reference laboratory, and notifying the supervisor of unresolved orders.

Update job knowledge through participation in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, networking, and professional organization involvement.

Enhance the phlebotomy department’s reputation by accepting ownership of new requests and exploring opportunities to add value.

Use PHI in accordance with HIPAA regulations and complete HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedures Compliance, and security training within 30 days of hire.

Maintain current status on Natera training requirements.

Manage logistical tasks such as printing patient reports for the area.

Answer and triage billing questions and follow up with patients.

Schedule pick‑ups from courier services (FedEx or MedSpeed).

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of phlebotomy experience.

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Phlebotomy Certificate (if required by state).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to serve and protect the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements, including JCAHO standards.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work in an office setting with scrubs required.
