
Business Controller

Location: Broomfield, CO | Monday/Friday Remote
Salary: Up to $130,000
Our client is seeking a Business Controller to support the financial operations of their East Coast business unit. This role partners closely with operational leadership to provide financial insight, strengthen accounting processes, and ensure accurate financial reporting across projects and business operations.
This is a hands-on role with strong operational visibility, ideal for an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or emerging Controller coming from the Construction industry looking to expand their ownership and impact without overseeing the entire corporate accounting function.
Responsibilities
Operational Finance & Project Controls
Partner with operations leadership to support project financial reviews and project controls
Monitor financial performance and project margins across the East Coast business unit
Identify leading and trending financial indicators to improve operational performance
Provide financial insight to help drive better decision-making across operations
Accounting Operations
Lead core accounting functions including month-end close and general ledger management
Oversee account reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial records
Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards
Oversee accounting execution for complex transactions and key accounts
Prepare financial reporting and analysis for executive leadership
Support financial visibility for board-level decision making
Collaborate with FP&A teams on forecasting, budgeting, and cashflow planning
Assist operations leaders in maintaining financial accuracy across projects
Process Improvement & Systems
Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and documentation
Drive automation and system improvements to streamline the month-end close process
Help develop scalable accounting processes to support company growth
Strategic Finance Support
Serve as a financial partner to operations leadership
Support integration of acquired entities into financial systems and processes
Assist with tax planning and compliance alongside internal and external partners
Provide financial insight to support strategic initiatives and growth
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
5+ years of progressive accounting experience with proven construction industry experience.
Experience supporting month-end close and general ledger processes
Demonstrated experience improving processes or financial systems
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with financial systems
Ability to travel occasionally along the East Coast
Preferred Qualifications
CPA certification
Experience leading a full month-end close cycle
Prior experience with Vista by Viewpoint
Background in public accounting or fast-scaling private companies
Experience supporting M&A integration activities
