Office Technician (Typing)
Perform a range of general office duties, including typing, dictation, and transcription; handling mail and documents; filing and records management; preparing and reviewing documents; composing correspondence; providing oral communications; maintaining statistical and other record keeping; cashiering; and ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment. Employees in this series may be required to possess particular knowledge and proficiency in typing, cashiering, and information services. The role may also involve instructing, leading, or supervising incarcerated personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated typing speed meeting the minimum requirement outlined in the class specifications.

Valid typing certification prior to hiring.

Under 24 of the 12‑month limited‑term authority, as described by the position’s classification.

Desirable Qualifications

Strong clerical skills: accurate spelling, clear writing, sound arithmetic, and proficient use of office equipment.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions, evaluate situations accurately, and take effective actions.

Excellent written and spoken English at a professional level.

Experience creating comprehensive reports, maintaining detailed records, and dealing tactfully with the public.

Competence in applying relevant laws, rules, and office policies.

Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace.

The position is located in the California State Prison – Los Angeles County (LAC) in Lancaster, CA. The prison is approximately 45 minutes north of Valencia, CA, and 75 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.
