Sr Painter/Maintenance Mechanic
Overview
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sr Painter/Maintenance Mechanic for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Works independently in a “zone” or as the only Painter/Maintenance Mechanic on a particular campus, reporting directly to a second-level supervisor.
Responsibilities
Guide or instruct other staff in the performance of a wide range of painting and mechanical duties required for all University facilities.
Carry out duties based on work orders which provide little or no instruction or assistance.
Estimate work and procure appropriate materials for self or group.
Guide and instruct craft trainees.
Perform any duties of the group.
May be assigned to perform general duties in other trade areas.
Shift hours: Mon-Fri 7:00AM-3:30PM.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school/vocational school education or equivalent, plus three years of experience in performing painting assignments.
Successful completion of an approved training program or a certified apprenticeship plus two years experience with proven competency in complex painting assignments may substitute the above experience.
Certifications/ Licenses:
Valid driver’s license with at least two years of driving experience.
Must successfully complete Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Competent in performing complex and varied painting assignments.
Good communication skills, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints.
Preferred Qualifications:
May need to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.
