Compensation
Pay Rate: $37.00 – $39.00 per hour. This represents the good faith estimate of the hourly wage range we reasonably expect to pay for this position upon hire, depending on factors such as the selected candidate's experience, training, education, job‑related skills, internal equity, and operational needs. In select cases, and depending on market conditions or exceptional candidate qualifications, compensation may exceed this range, provided it aligns with applicable law and our compensation policies. Job Summary
The Aztec Shops Locksmith is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and rekeying locks and access control systems across residential housing, dining facilities, and other retail spaces. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, security, and accessibility of campus buildings while supporting operational needs and customer service expectations in a higher education environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Install, maintain, repair, and replace mechanical and electronic locking systems, door hardware, and access control devices in residence halls, dining facilities, other retail spaces, and support areas.

Rekey locks and manage master key systems in accordance with company key control and security protocols.

Cut, duplicate, and issue keys while maintaining accurate key control records utilizing the IssueTrak system.

Troubleshoot and service door hardware including closers, panic hardware, hinges, and strikes.

Support access control systems such as card readers, key fobs, and electronic locking devices.

Perform security assessments and recommend improvements to locking systems and access procedures.

Provide support to company loss prevention for routine key and access control audits.

Respond to routine and emergency service requests, including lockouts and security‑related issues for students, faculty, staff, and authorized vendors in accordance with company and campus policies.

Coordinate with loss prevention, residential housing, dining facilities, other retail operations, facilities, and public safety departments to support access needs.

Support move‑in/move‑out cycles, renovations, and operational changes requiring lock or access modifications.

Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, building codes, fire life safety requirements, and company and campus policies.

Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory in safe working condition.

Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, and federal, state, and local laws/regulations including employment, safety, and health.

Job Requirements
Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.

Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) or equivalent professional certification and experience.

Experience with electronic access control systems.

Working knowledge of locksmith tools, equipment, and techniques.

Familiarity with master key systems and key control best practices.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders.

Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple service requests.

Attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality and security.

Effective communication and customer service skills.

Operating a company vehicle and/or golf cart on university or company property may be required. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and not have received more than three moving violations or been responsible for more than three accidents in the past 12 months.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and will be required to provide proof of driving eligibility upon hire.

Qualifications

Language Skills: Must read, write, and understand English. Must verbally communicate professionally and concisely.

Mathematical Skills: Perform simple arithmetic, such as extending material prices and converting between fractional and decimal measurements.

Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense to carry out general written or oral instructions; multi‑task, prioritize work, and pay attention to detail.

Manual Dexterity: Must be able to use and identify a variety of materials and tools used in building and repair work and equipment maintenance.

Physical Communication: Communicate verbally and hear to allow for normal and emergency communication between individuals.

Physical Demands: Lift, move, and carry up to 50 pounds; frequent standing, bending, stooping, and walking; fine motor skills for handling tools. Visual abilities include close and peripheral vision for reading instructions.

Working Conditions and Hazards

Occasional work in confined spaces such as tunnels, closets, and shafts that may be dimly lit with wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, or exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Work performed in indoor and outdoor settings, including offices, residential areas, and mechanical spaces.

Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, allergens, extreme cold or heat, and loud noises.
