
Design Release Engineer Exterior Trims

Job Description
The Design and Release (D&R) Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end development of exterior cladding and wheel flares. You will lead these components from initial concept sketches and clay models through to full-volume production. This role serves as the central hub between the Product Design Office (Studio), Vehicle Architecture, and external suppliers to ensure all aesthetic, functional, and packaging requirements are met.
Core Responsibilities
Concept Development:
Provide engineering feasibility input for Product Design Office (PDO) concepts, sketches, and clay models; translate "Studio" vision into manufacturable geometry.
Full Lifecycle Management:
Own the design, development, and release of cladding and flares; establish and manage the detailed development timeline for the entire project life.
Technical Documentation:
Author and manage functional objectives, build objectives,
DFMEA
, and
DVP &R
to ensure component integrity and performance.
CAD & Systems Release:
Execute and manage the release of completed geometry using
NX and Teamcenter
CAD tools.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Interface with Vehicle Development, Body Engineering, Architecture, and Program Science teams to align packaging and system requirements.
Supplier Management:
Direct supplier engineering activities to ensure parts meet quality, cost, and timing targets through the production launch.
Issue Resolution:
Construct work plans to resolve technical issues and bridge gaps between conflicting organizational requirements (e.g., Styling vs. Engineering Function).
Qualifications:
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
Experience:
3+ years of product development experience, specifically with
Engineering Plastic Class A components .
Software Proficiency:
Expert-level knowledge of
NX and Teamcenter
; proficient in MS Office Suite.
Technical Toolkit:
Proven experience constructing DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, and managing formal Change Management processes.
Communication:
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to reach consensus on complicated, multi-disciplinary issues.
