Position Highlights

First Shift, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

This is an on-site position
The Role

This position is responsible for safely operating the Skid Steer Loader and other heavy equipment in accordance with safety guidelines, performing daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment within the District 4 area.
Requirements

Candidates must indicate they hold a current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tank endorsement in the application; candidates invited to interview must produce a copy of their current valid CDL Class A or B with tank endorsement, a valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC), and copies of their last two performance appraisals at time of interview, or they will be disqualified.
Incumbents must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, with mandatory winter overtime (November 1 – April 30). Storm events may require extended shifts, holidays and weekends.
A 30-mile residency from the assigned garage is required.
Bring a copy of your Master Application, Employment of Relatives Form, and Acknowledgement of Ethics Receipt to the interview.
The Agency will conduct a practicum to evaluate skills and qualifications; practicums follow the Department of Transportation Administrative Guidelines for Conducting Practicums and are part of the interview process.
Eligible candidates will be interviewed prior to skill evaluation practicum.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

Considerable knowledge of construction, maintenance and repair techniques of roadways, roadsides, bridges or airports; processes and materials used in highway and bridge or airport construction and maintenance.
Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Considerable ability to operate and perform routine repairs on highly complex mechanical equipment; ability to utilize computer software.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - General Experience:

Three (3) years of experience in construction, landscaping, commercial driving, snow plowing, maintenance and repair of roadways/bridges/airports with operation of mechanical equipment, or related maintenance trades.
Minimum Qualifications - Special Experience:

One (1) year of general experience must be in operating complex equipment or performing skilled tasks. For state employees, experience is interpreted at the level of a Transportation Maintainer 3.
Substitutions:

Graduation from vocational/technical school with a diploma in a maintenance trade may substitute for two years of General Experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience operating skid steer equipment.
Special Requirements & Other Conditions

Incumbents may be required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.
Willingness to accept emergency duties including snow and ice removal.
May be required to work in conditions with protective equipment; asbestos awareness per EPA guidelines may be applicable.
Physical and Working Conditions

Physical strength, stamina, agility, and sensory acuity to perform duties; physical examinations may be required.
Exposure to extreme weather, heavy lifting, traffic hazards, heights, and other environmental risks; use of protective equipment may be required.
