Job Summary

To support growth of the company, Cox Fleet is hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician II. This on‑site position focuses on certified DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, light repairs, and advanced repair under supervision.
Duties

Perform preventive maintenance and repairs, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on various trailers and equipment with little or no supervision.
Document work via company standards, uploading pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using iOS device and TRAIT application.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.
Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
Manage parts inventory and conduct periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, including safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
Apply knowledge acquired through formal training or on‑the‑job experience.
Work with and listen to clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve issues.
Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize work effectively.
Act with integrity, honesty, and confidentiality.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs in a mobile/field environment.
Respond to call‑center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
Maintain a high level of productivity within or close to standard repair times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for approvals and discussions.
Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Complete required safety training.
Maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors.
Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and generate solutions.
Inspect, test, and diagnose defective equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.
Requirements

High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience with trailers, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possess and supply a set of hand tools required to perform job duties.
OEM training and certifications preferred.
Participate in and complete all company‑required training.
Must complete DOT‑regulated background check and DOT physical or provide valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining.
Must be at least 21 years old.
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required; must hold a Class CDL C License.
Must be authorized to work in the United States with no current or future sponsorship required.

ASE T8 (PMI) certification
Preferred Certifications

ASE 608/609 certification
ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification
ASE T7 (HVAC) certification
Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, repair, and maintenance.
Ability to understand implications of new information for problem solving.
Physical capability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
Ability to judge distance accurately and assess physical tasks.
Excellent written and verbal communication for two‑way communication.
Determine appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
Use logic and reasoning to analyze alternative solutions.

Compensation

Hourly pay rate ranges from $26.73 to $40.10 per hour, dependent on location and qualifications. Position may also be eligible for commissions, incentive programs, and additional compensation.
Employees receive a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off each month, seven paid holidays, and additional leave options such as bereavement leave, voting leave, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
