Responsibilities

Install, replace, and/or repair poles, meters, and a variety of other pole fixtures and hardware.

Install underground cable and conduit, run overhead wire and conduit and attach to cross-arms and make electrical connection by splicing and/or other method.

Install industrial services by running wires from pole to entrance weather-head.

Install street lighting circuits, lamps and related hardware.

Use a variety of test instruments to run load tests on transformers, check and correct circuit malfunctions, etc.

Operate standby generator equipment, truck with winch and power takeoff, posthole digger, aerial boom, and related equipment.

Must possess a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Incumbent must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physicals.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) : Ability to do the work of a High Voltage Electrician without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform some tasks including determining types of wire, conduit, and transformers. Ability to use electrical supplies and devices and integrate them into electrical systems and equipment worked on to ensure proper and safe operation.

Physical Effort : Moderately heavy physical effort is exerted in climbing a pole, working aloft on pole, at ground level, and in ground trenches or manholes. Moderately heavy lifting, pulling, and carrying of equipment and material weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifting or pulling heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers using block and tackle, pulleys, or other lifting devices. Position requires incumbent to crouch, stand, kneel, and stoop while installing, repairing or testing electrical equipment in confined spaces. Work above ground from aerial bucket trucks and poles, at ground level, and in trenches or manholes. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing and standing for long periods while installing, repairing and testing electrical equipment in manholes and on overhead distribution lines.

Working Conditions : Works indoors and outdoors while being exposed to danger from explosions of equipment and cables in manholes and vault, high voltage electrical shock, burns from solder, and other hazards. Incumbent is exposed to heat and noise in substations or power-generating facilities, extremes of weather outdoors, and to unpleasant odors and wet/slippery surfaces in manholes. Must use protective equipment such as earplugs, safety hats, and nonconductive gloves and footwear.
