Engineering Intern – Cortland, NY
Intertek is seeking summer interns for its Electrical team located in Cortland, New York. The position is a full‑time paid internship lasting 8–12 weeks during the summer.
Responsibilities
Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
Identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing.
Set up and operate standard test equipment including spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, multimeter, dielectric strength tester, ground continuity tester, surge generator, environmental chamber, and other specialized tools.
Perform electrical testing of products in accordance with U.S., Canadian, and international safety standards, including rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, and other core tests.
Build and calibrate test fixtures using hand tools.
Follow sample handling procedures and log samples into and out of the system.
Package samples for shipment as required.
Compile test results and produce reports during construction review and testing.
Communicate project status and test results throughout the testing process.
Execute other related tasks as needed.
Skills & Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organization and time‑management abilities.
Self‑motivated and able to work independently in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking environment.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage multiple variables.
Capacity to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
Current engineering student in a bachelor’s program at an accredited engineering school.
At least sophomore year of study.
Preferred Requirements & Qualifications
Electrical engineering major.
Resident of Cortland, NY area or surrounding Central New York communities.
Salary & Benefits
The base wage for this internship is $20–$22 per hour, based on skill set and experience. Interns receive paid holidays in addition to the hourly salary.
