About the Role
Boulder County Human Resources (HR) department is hiring a Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) Specialist to support offices and departments and serve in a payroll/timekeeping specialist capacity. The HRIS Specialist is a journey‑level position that performs complex and specialized work with a considerable degree of independent judgment and decision‑making. This position reports to the Payroll Supervisor and completes related work for the entire organization.
Hiring Range
$67,068.00 - $81,834.00 annually.

Examples of Duties
Verify accuracy of payroll information submitted to Human Resources from county departments and offices.
Process documentation necessary to ensure an accurate paycheck, including HR Action Notices, W‑4s, direct deposit authorization forms and payments, direct credit union deductions and other related documents.
Verify timekeeping accuracy through reports and verifications.
Reconcile monthly withholdings of Federal, State and Social Security taxes.
Prepare and file benefit payments and reports.
Maintain General Ledger payroll accounts with county finance.
Process special payroll checks on an as‑needed basis.
Process garnishments and special withholdings, and prepare vouchers to pay withheld funds to companies or agencies requesting the withholding.
Provide training in the HRIS system for managers, payroll coordinators and staff.
Troubleshoot and resolve timekeeping issues—including HRIS system updates, system maintenance, security checks and licensing.
Assist department/office points of contact and employees with timekeeping information and direction.
Communicate with departments/offices when changes are made to payroll or timekeeping practices.
Create and update procedures and work instructions.
Perform related work as required.
May be reassigned in case of emergency situation.
Required Qualifications
Five years of payroll experience, including one year of timekeeping experience.
This full‑time position works primarily remote with an average of one day per month in‑office; Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑4:30 pm with some schedule flexibility. Some travel within Boulder County is required. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non‑exempt.
Must pass conditional post‑offer background check.
Boulder County requires employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong skills in Microsoft Excel.
