Summary Description
Under direction of the principal and in collaboration with the School Library Media Program, installs, operates, maintains and keeps inventory of multimedia technology and demonstrates and trains staff, students, and community users on its proper use. The MST position functions as the: point person for multimedia at school/cluster/consortium activities, including sound, lighting, and radio and TV engineering; facilitator of training for students and staff in the mechanics of multimedia; facilitator for students and staff in the effective use of equipment; technical support for media specialists and other instructional staff; technical and instructional support for electronic/broadcast media in studio spaces, auditorium, gymnasium, cafeteria, stadium and additional presentation spaces; support for school administrator in the implementation of related multimedia requirements.
Physical Demands
Ability to move equipment weighing 50+ pounds, climb ladders, and work from high places.
Ability to perform work requiring considerable walking, stair climbing, and moving equipment from room to room.
Special Requirements
Frequent overtime or night work required.
MSTs are assigned to an individual high school as their primary place of employment and should be available for consultation with cluster/consortium schools in MCPS.
Ability to work overtime as required by school or MCPS activities.
May require use of personal vehicle to transport equipment and materials.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and administrators in providing technical assistance with multimedia technology.
Knowledge of multimedia productions encompassing the areas of radio, TV, cablecasting technology, streaming technology, audiovisual communications, auditorium, theatre production, video/filmmaking, lighting and sound systems.
Can demonstrate knowledge of computer applications related to presentations and non-linear video/audio editing.
Knowledge of the construction, operation, and first line maintenance of audiovisual, theatre, radio and TV related equipment used in an educational environment.
Aptitude for learning the technical characteristics and operation of new state-of-the-art industry equipment.
Demonstrate expertise in maintaining and implementing safe operational practices, procedures and training for the use of multimedia technology and facilities.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.
Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education, Training, and Experience
Associate’s degree required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience may be substituted for the degree requirement if the experience is consistent with course work described below.
Considerable coursework and/or combination of formal training in the areas of visual/fine/performing arts, media production, radio/television, theater production or related field.
Experience with multimedia equipment and program production, including audiovisual communications and theater production, with experience in an instructional environment or client services is preferred.
Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position with state-of-the-art equipment, may be considered.
Certificate License: Possession of a valid Maryland Class C non-commercial driver's license or equivalent.
