
Service Plumber/HVAC Technician

Brief Description
The Service Plumber / HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining commercial plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures (such as sinks and toilets), and water heaters. This role involves diagnosing leaks, clearing blockages, and ensuring all work complies with applicable safety codes and regulations. In addition, the technician supports HVAC operations by assisting with routine maintenance and installations. Responsibilities include changing filters, cleaning coils, and helping install equipment to ensure HVAC systems operate efficiently and reliably. This position is a Safety Sensitive Position. The essential functions, physical demands, and mental competencies of this job require the employee to maintain the ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.
Specific Job Duties And Responsibilities
Inspect troubleshoot, and repair plumbing systems including leaky pipes, clogged.
Install new plumbing fixtures and appliances; perform scheduled preventative maintenance across water, gas, and drain-waste-vent (DWV) piping systems.
Diagnose and repair HVAC equipment including compressors, motors, fans, thermostats ducts, VAV and VRF systems, and associated mechanical, electrical, and electronic components.
Disassemble, retrofit, and reassemble mechanical and electrical machinery; verify clearances, voltages, and amperage prior to returning any equipment or system to service.
Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer specifications to guide repairs, modifications, and installations.
Operate a broad range of hand and power tools including pipe wrenches, cutters, benders, drain snakes, acetylene torches, and electric drills; utilize hoisting equipment as needed.
Use diagnostic and testing instruments such as amp meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, thermometers, manometers, refrigerant gauges, vacuum pumps, and recovery/recycling equipment.
Inspect and test electrical and signal circuits; perform repairs or modifications in compliance with NEC, NFPA, NAPE and maintenance department standards.
Assist with routine HVAC maintenance tasks including filter changes, coil cleaning, and equipment installation to ensure efficient system performance.
Communicate repair options, recommendations, and cost estimates clearly to leadership and relevant stakeholders.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of work performed, parts used, time sheets, and equipment history including model numbers, installation dates, and service logs.
Adhere to all applicable local plumbing codes, safety regulations, and hospital facility policies and procedures.
Collaborate effectively with electricians, engineers, plumbers, and sheet metal/ductwork workers; ability to work independently when required.
Education, Certification, Licensure, Registration
High school diploma or GED required.
Journeyman or Master Plumber’s license required (Active or Deferment)
Valid AR driver’s license.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS And ABILITIES
Minimum 5 years' experience as a journeyman plumber or commercial refrigeration mechanic. (Required)
Prior hands-on experience with VAV and VRF HVAC systems. (Required)
General aptitude and willingness to perform all-around mechanical, electrical, carpentry, and varied facility maintenance repairs.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical documents, and written/oral instructions; strong grasp of technical terminology and applied mathematics.
Proficiency with fixed and portable power tools, as well as carpentry trade tools and principles.
Ability to operate material handling equipment including forklifts and vertical lifts.
Basic computer proficiency for recordkeeping, work orders, and documentation.
Ability to follow safety practices including hazard recognition and compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams, staff, and the public.
Ability to assess repair and upgrade needs and provide informed budgetary recommendations and expenditure justifications.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and schedule forms.
Interpersonal Skills
Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form.
Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.

The work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is a frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds or more), and perform other similar actions during the workday.
