General Purpose of Job
The Kitchen Support Specialist will assist in organizing, managing, and coordinating daily food service functions across the campus, as well as assisting in supervising volunteers who carry out these functions. This includes monitoring the service of food and beverages to clients and students, and ensuring adherence to labor laws and health compliance regulations.

The Kitchen Support Specialist will place food orders, monitor inventory, work with the Cook to create menus, ensure cleanliness of kitchen and food/supplies storage, and meet industry and legal requirements for all aspects of food service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work with Soup Kitchen Cook and monitor day-to-day operations of the hot meal program, Learning Zone food service (preschool, afterschool, and summer enrichment), and special event meals and snacks.

Plan meals with the Cook for the entire food service program.

Place orders for all supplies and food, working with Director of Social Services and Soup Kitchen Cook for ACRFB ordering.

Prepare and cook meals in the absence of the Cook.

Ensure food in storage is dated and rotated to maintain adequate nutrition.

Maintain required records including food production, inventory, income/expense, meal counts, temperature logs, and certifications.

Ensure program follows proper sanitation procedures, including the recycling program.

Assist the Soup Kitchen Cook with managing food service volunteers, including cooks and food preparers.

Maintain safety standards while cooking.

Oversee food preparation and serving.

Collaborate with the Soup Kitchen Cook to plan menus for all areas, working with LZ administration and special event hosts.

Refer consumer preferences and complaints to the Social Services Ministries Coordinator.

Adhere to the Kitchen budget for programs.

Maintain current kitchen equipment—refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, dish machines, ice machine, and grease traps—working with the Facilities Director, and communicate issues promptly.

Ensure a satisfactory dining experience.

Train and oversee volunteers alongside the Soup Kitchen Cook.

Direct cleaning of the dining area and kitchen.

Keep records of supplies and purchases in official Salvation Army inventory forms.

Supervisory Responsibilities
All Food Services volunteers.

Minimum Education and/or Experience

High school diploma.

Background or training in food service and preparation.

Prior experience working in a service position at a restaurant.

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Skills in managing personnel and clients.

Basic computer skills for ordering and record‑keeping.

Comfortable working within a Christian Ministry environment.

Special Skills, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid and current Driver’s license.

ServSafe Manager Certification.
