Summary

Keeps the district's school buildings in a state of operating excellence that provides a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to conduct learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.
Assists in set-up and clean-up of lunchroom area.
Shovels snow when necessary.
Maintains building and grounds security by opening and/or closing the building each school day.
Assists visiting public who are utilizing the facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment.
Moves furniture and equipment within the building as required for various activities and as directed by the administration.
Cleans white boards and erasers at least once a week.
Cleans graffiti off walls when needed.
Reports immediately to the administration any unsafe conditions and/or damage to school property.
Scrubs and disinfects rest room floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
Vacuums carpets daily and/or as needed.
Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste, asbestos control and cleaning, and body fluid control and cleaning.
Cleans classrooms, offices and public commons areas daily.

None.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or visitors to the district.
Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with several variables in various situations.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to pass a physical test.
Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be:
Required to use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision and have the ability to adjust focus.
Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk; and/or hear.
Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
Frequently required to walk and sit.
Frequently required to squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward.
Required to continuously use hand strength to grab tools and climb onto ladders.
Frequently required to bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing similar duties.
Required to push/pull/lift items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines, etc.
Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 lb. such as cleaning supplies, pails and/or unloading trucks.
Required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lb. such as salt and bulk furniture.
Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Terms of Employment and Evaluation

A twelve-month fiscal year contract, for either full-time or part-time employment, based on job need.
Salary and fringe benefits to be determined by the Board of Education as indicated on the adopted Custodian Salary Schedule.
An annual performance evaluation to be completed by the building principal.
