
Senior Accountant

This role will be a key asset to the future growth of AFV. The Senior Accountant will serve as a critical contributor to our accounting operations, providing financial leadership and support to the Director of Accounting and Finance. This position requires a solid understanding of both accounting principles and real estate/property management business operations, including experience with property accounting platforms and real estate financial reporting.
Responsibilities
Lead the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries and financial statement preparation in accordance with US GAAP
Own monthly account reconciliations, including intercompany transactions and property-level reconciliations
Perform detailed analysis of financial results compared to forecast and prior month results/trends at both the corporate and property level
Manage revenue recognition processes, including deferred revenue calculations relevant to property management and SaaS platforms
Support and oversee accounts payable, billing, and collections functions, including property-related vendor payments
Prepare quarterly commission statements and payment summaries
Prepare work papers and schedules for the annual audit and coordinate directly with auditors
Assist in the creation and continuous improvement of accounting processes and policies in conjunction with the Director of Finance & Accounting
Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting policies
Contribute to forecasting, budgeting processes, tax filings, and other requested financial data
Support the implementation and optimization of real estate accounting platforms including Yardi
Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives
Desired Characteristics
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
CPA or CPA candidate preferred, but not required
3–5 years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting experience is a plus
Experience in Class B real estate, property management, or a related industry strongly preferred
Proficiency with Yardi and/or QuickBooks
Hands-on experience with Yardi for property accounting, reporting, and general ledger management
Experience with intercompany transactions and reconciliations
Background working with SaaS companies and knowledge of ASC 606 is a plus
Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and US GAAP
Advanced Excel skills — capable of building and automating detailed financial models
Ability to solve complex problems using multiple data sources
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High degree of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information
Experience with Windows-based environments
