Heavy Truck & Equipment Mechanic

Position Overview

We are seeking a Truck & Equipment Mechanic to perform inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment. This role supports safe and reliable fleet operations through mechanical repairs, welding, and routine service work.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with truck maintenance, brake systems, welding, and preventative maintenance and can work efficiently in a fast-paced shop environment.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Inspection & Diagnostics

  • Conduct mechanical and light electrical inspections on trucks and equipment
  • Read job orders and listen to equipment in operation to diagnose malfunctions
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and determine repair procedures

Mechanical Repairs

  • Diagnose and repair components such as engines, transmissions, gearboxes, rear axles, springs, and drive lines
  • Troubleshoot and repair brake systems and related mechanical components
  • Replace or repair damaged equipment components

Preventive Maintenance

  • Perform preventative maintenance including brakes, fluids, lighting systems, and lubrication
  • Service equipment including oil changes and greasing trucks and machinery
  • Record services and repairs to maintain accurate maintenance records

Fabrication & Shop Work

  • Perform welding repairs and component fabrication
  • Operate cutting torch and gas welding equipment
  • Use shop equipment including power drills, saws, air tools, and impact tools

Safety & Work Environment

  • Wear required PPE during all shop activities
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop environment
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • 0–3 years of truck mechanic or heavy equipment maintenance experience
  • Technical school training or equivalent experience preferred

Required Skills

  • Welding experience
  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read maintenance manuals and safety documents
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Licensing

  • Class A or B CDL required or ability to obtain

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and walk frequently

Additional Skills

  • Must possess a wide variety of mechanic tools
  • Spanish or bilingual skills are a plus

  • Shop and maintenance environment
  • Frequent use of shop tools and welding equipment
  • Physical work including lifting, climbing, and bending
